Tharptown rally falls short against CC

MUSCLE SHOALS – The Tharptown varsity boys basketball team found itself in a hole early against Covenant Christian Tuesday, but managed to battle back and make the game close by halftime.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats could not maintain the momentum and Covenant Christian was able to walk off the court with a 56-41 win.
The Eagles led 16-9 by the end of the first quarter, but Tharptown's defense stepped up and the offense found its rhythm as the Wildcats ended the second quarter on an 11-2 run to cut Covenant Christian's lead to 28-25 at halftime.
The Wildcats kept the game close through the third quarter and trailed by only four points as the final period began.
The Eagles opened the fourth on a 7-2 run to take control of the game for good.
Manny Ricardo scored eight points to lead the Wildcats while Wade Berryman added seven points. Also scoring for Tharptown were Devin Lawson (6), Jacob Parker (5), Kelby Hallmark (5), Wesley Borden (2), Matt Austin (2) and Cody Cagle (2).
