MUSCLE SHOALS – The Tharptown varsity girls basketball team allowed Covenant Christian to keep the game close through the first quarter, but the outside shooting heated up for the Lady Wildcats as they pulled away for a 65-47 victory Tuesday.
Heather Hatton led the Lady Wildcats from behind the arc, hitting six of Tharptown's eight 3-pointers during the game.
With Tharptown leading 21-19 midway through the second quarter, Hatton caught fire and hit three of her deep shots before halftime to extend the Lady Wildcats' lead to 36-25 at the break.
The Lady Eagles put together a rally in the third to cut Tharptown's advantage to 41-37, but that would be as close as Covenant Christian would get to tying the game.
The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Eagles 20-10 in the final quarter to claim the 18-point win.
Chelsea McCluskey led Tharptown with 19 points, while Hatton scored 18 and Kamri Sears added 14. Kendra Baker and Chloe Lane scored five points each while Tosha George added three points and Lori Metcalf scored two points.
