The Red Bay City Council passed an ordinance Monday that will hold people who have joined certain boards and committees accountable.
The council wants to make sure that city appointed boards are able to meet in satisfactory time frames and want assurance that board members are attending meetings.
That is certainly understandable.
Many city boards throughout the county are volunteer-based and those members are forced to sacrifice to be part of them.
But it is important that all boards serve their deignated purpose.
If not, what are they for?
Monday’s action gives members of each board and committee three unexcused absences for each year. The council stated that anyone who is unable to follow this rule would be subject for replacement.
The council should be commended for making sure the boards are beneifical and useful to the city.
