A Russellville teen will be competing for the title of Alabama Junior Miss this weekend.
Emma Kathryn McDowell, a Russellville High School senior, will be taking part in the competition Saturday in Montgomery.
McDowell is one of 52 young ladies participating in this year’s program.
Alabama’s Junior Miss is selected based on performance in the categories of scholastic achievement, physical fitness, talent, interview and self-expression. She will be singing “Even Now” for her talent.
The participants arrived in Montgomery on Friday, Jan. 8. They began practicing the following day learning choreography for onstage routines.
Each participant is assigned to live with a host family for the week. McDowell and her roommate, Courtney Parker, of Baldwin County, will be staying with a Prattville family.
Ironically, the two teen’s mothers were sorority roommates at the University of Alabama.
McDowell is a senior at Russellville High School. She is active in several school and community activities.
She is class president, majorette captain, girl’s state senator, yearbook editor-in-chief, student council secretary, RHS singers’ president, Mu Alpha Theta projects chairperson, Homecoming Queen first alternate, Spanish Club representative, National Honor Society, show choir, POWER team mentor, Key Club senior vice-president, Chemistry club, SADD, Science club, Quad-Cities choral festival, jazz band, FBLA and she also sings for various community programs.
She is the daughter of Danny and Paula McDowell and the granddaughter of James and Marjorie Bohannon and Martha McDowell and the late William Kemper McDowell.
