Belgreen pulls away from Rebels

BELGREEN -Belgreen and East Franklin swapped the lead early and often throughout the ninth-grade boys championship game Monday, but it was the Bulldogs that were able to take control in the fourth quarter to claim the county title 53-41.
Belgreen led by three at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Rebels 15-6 in the final period to secure the win.
Chase Landers led the Bulldogs with 22 points while Brock Hester added 10 points. Also scoring for Belgreen were Shawn Hill (6), Jared Mitchell (4), Dustin Smith (3), Josh DeVaney (3), Taylor Hargett (3) and Blake Hargett (2).
Skeeter Benford scored 27 points for the Rebels. Chris Frost chipped in with six points while Clay Harris scored four points. Brady Whitten and Cory Potter scored two points each.
East Franklin 50,
Red Bay 40
East Franklin rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to knock off Red Bay 50-40 Saturday during the semifinals of the ninth-grade boys tournament.
Benford scored a game-high 32 points for the Rebels while Frost added seven points, Harris scored six points and Whitten scored five points.
Austin Humphres led Red Bay with 11 points while Bradley Brooks added nine points.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Colt Hardin (6), Tyler Hastings (5), Matt Belue (5), Zach Garrett (2) and Tra Elliott (2).
Belgreen 50,
Phil Campbell 29
Belgreen took and 11-point lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back to clinch a spot in the finals by defeating Phil Campbell 50-29 Saturday.
Landers led the Bulldogs with 14 points while Mitchell scored 12 and DeVaney added 11 points. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Smith (6), Blake Hargett (3), Hall (2) and Hester (2).
Colton Vikery led the Bobcats with 11 points while Austin Jones added eight points.
Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Jamie Dorroh (6), Cody Fuller (2) and Jacob Ayers (2).
