One killed, two injured in crash

An elderly Franklin County woman was killed instantly during a two-car accident on Alabama 243 Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said Rachel Ergle, 81, of 3071 Franklin 75 in Phil Campbell was killed after her 2005 Dodge Caravan collided with a 2008 Mazda CRV, flipping off the road and landing on it’s side in a small creek.
Authorities said Doris Lindsey, 42, of 3026 Highway 75 in Phil Campbell, who was in the car with Ergle at the time of the accident, was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where she underwent surgery Tuesday night.
The driver of the second vehicle, Courtney Lindsey, 19, of 107 Pinkard Lane in Phil Campbell was transported to Russellville Hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Courtney Lindsey and Doris Lindsey are not related.
Officials said Doris Lindsey is in stable condition.
Authorities said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
The accident occurred between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Tuesday a couple miles south of the Russellville Airport.
Officials with the Alabama State Troopers Quad-Cities Post and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office worked the scene.
