Relay for Life kick off planned for Jan. 14

With Christmas over and the new year upon us, the Franklin County Relay for Life committee has been busy gearing up for another Relay season in the county.
Committee Chairperson Belinda Johnson said the 2010 Relay will be held on May 7 at the Russellville High School Stadium as usual, but the kick-off is just a few weeks away.
This year’s kick-off will be held on Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Russellville First Baptist Church’s fellowship hall.
This year’s Relay theme is Birthday Bash: Creating a world with more birthdays.
The kick-off is free to attend, and new teams are encouraged to attend the event to gain information about Relay.
Guest speakers for the kick-off will include Julia Sullivan, daughter of long-time Relay co-captain Jimmie Flemming, and Corey Williams, a cancer survivor and UNA student.
Flemming recently lost his battle with cancer. He was affiliated with the North Russellville Baptist Church Relay for Life team.
Johnson said there will be door prizes, or birthday gifts, given away at the event.
ACS services that are helped funded through Relay include but are not limited to cancer research, Hope Lodge, Look Good, Feel Better program, Man to Man program, and Road to Recovery program.
