Green is county's best defender

By Staff

The 2009 edition of the Russellville defense was regarded by many to be one of the best in recent memory.
Jessie Green posted strong numbers as he led a talented group of linebackers that helped the Golden Tiger defense limit opponents to an average of only 212.7 yards per game and posted four shutouts.
Green was the team's leading tackler with 140 total tackles. His 93 solo tackles were a team best and he was second in assisted tackles with 47.
He had 13 tackles for a loss and recorded three sacks.
Green was a vital force in stopping opposing teams' running attacks, but he was also a capable pass defender.
He broke up four passes this season and he returned his lone interception, in the third-round playoff game against Cullman, 17 yards for a touchdown.
Green also saw a little action on offense. He carried the ball three times for 29 yards and caught one pass for a 13-yard touchdown reception.
