THARPTOWN-Teachers and students at Tharptown High School have collaborated together to form an “Adopt a Kid” program this Christmas.
A list of students from kindergarten through 6th grade was gathered and names were posted. The student council has taken it upon themselves to take control of the event to make it a successful one.
A Christmas tree was given to the school by Shell’s Christmas tree farm. Over 20 names were hung on the tree for the student body to adopt. The local future business leaders of America (FBLA) donated $50 to put towards the cause.
Student council president German Castillo said he is surprised how well the student body reacted.
The student council is working on getting more kids names to put on the tree.
The student council plans to reach out to the Salvation Army and Toys for Tots programs with donations from their event.
