Clifton Hovater, 86, of Tuscumbia, Ala., passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Helen Keller hospital.
He was a native of Franklin County and was a retired stone cutter. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Russellville.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 30, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville, with burial in Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Officiating was Bro. James McCullar.
He is survived by Mary Ruth Hovater, of Tuscumbia; son, Danny Hovater and fianc/e, Regina, of Killen; daughter, Connie Johnson and husband, Danny, of Tuscumbia; sisters, Frances Logan, of Russellville, Edith Martin and husband, James, of Birmingham, Ruth Seal and husband, Alva Lee, of Littleville; brother, Don Hovater and wife, Judy, of Birmingham; grandchildren, Penelope Austin and husband, Eddie, LeKita Rice and husband, Eric; great-grandchildren, Stephen and Scott May, Daniel Wilkinson and wife, Renate, LaTeashea and Zack Wilkinson.
He was preceded in death by parents, Dawson and Kate Hovater, brother, Hershel Hovater, sister, Lillian Garrison, granddaughter, Heather Hovater May.
The family wants to thank Dr. Siddique and all the staff at Helen Keller Hospital, 4th floor and the E.R. Also thanks to the staff at Cottage of the Shoals “who were good to Daddy”.

Margaret Howard Everett Hester, 82, of Russellville, Ala. passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at ECM Hospital.
Funeral services were held Nov. 16, 2009 at Crooked Oak Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. James McCullar and Bro. Herschel Quinn officiating. Interment was in Crooked Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keevin McGraw, Tyler Pounders, J.T. Stokes, Trey Watkins, Albert Hester and J.T. Watkins.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Linnie Everett; parents, Robert &Lottie Howard; brothers, Clovis and Levon Howard; sister, Marie Miller; son-in-law, Tommy Watkins.
She is survived by her husband, Graton Hester; daughter, Patsy Watkins, of Tuscumbia; step-son, Albert Hester, of Russellville; step-daughter, Janet Stokes &husband, Sam, of Russellville; sister, Barbara Howard, of Russellville; brothers, Nello Howard, of Russellville, Ollis Howard &wife, Barbara, of Ohio, Delon Howard, of Illinois, Arnell Howard &wife, Lisa, of Russellville, Thomas Howard &wife, Shirley, of Russellville; two grandchildren, Tommy Lee “Trey” Watkins, III, Kimberly McGraw &husband, Keevin; three great-grandchildren, Angela Pounders &husband, Tyler, Tiffany Watkins and J.T. Watkins; one great-great grandson, Noah Pounders; two step- grandchildren, J.T. Stokes and Angel Stokes; numerous nieces &nephews.
She was a member of Crooked Oak Missionary Baptist Church.
The family extends their gratitude and thanks to Dr. Mann, Dr. Sago, Dr. Morris and the staff, nursing and medical at ECM Hospital, especially her caretakers, Dee Nichols &Patricia Borden, Mid-South Health Care caregivers, especially Emily Kutzley.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville. Burial was in Luketown Cemetery in Russellville.

Elmer Dodd, 70, of Haleyville, Ala. passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at his residence. He was a member of Ninth Avenue Church of Christ. He was owner of Dodd Real Estate.
Funeral services were held Nov. 27 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Andy Kizer officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy McNutt, Leon Dodd, Buster Burleson, Jeff Dodd, Kevin Dodd and Paul Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Dodd; children, Randy Dodd and Rhonda King; sisters, Mertice Masi and Thelma Brock; grandchildren, Jeff Dodd, Kevin Dodd, Phillip Dodd, Ben King and Sam King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Evie Jones Dodd; brother, Ulysses Dodd; and sister, Edith Pendley.

Willette Bolton Searcy, 9 of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at Shoals Hospital.
Funeral services were held Nov. 28, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Bobby Stancil officiating. Interment was in Graham Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Lee Searcy; daughter, Janet Searcy; granddaughter, Sherry Willette Searcy; great-granddaughter, Emmalie Ann Winstead; parents, Andre and Gertrude DeVaney Bolton; brother, Boyce Bolton; and niece, Debra Montgomery.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Searcy, of Russellville, and Rebecca Searcy, of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren, Riley Shane Winstead and wife, Kim, of Spruce Pine; great-grandchildren, Stohne Winstead and Isaac Winstead; brother, Bobby Bolton and wife, Mattie, of Russellville; and niece, Jennifer Bolton.
Glenda Clark “Tootsie” Gann

Glenda Clark “Tootsie” Gann, 55, of Golden, Miss. passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at North Miss. Medical Center. She was born January 28, 1954 in Franklin County to James Albert and Virgie Welch Clark. She was a seamstress and a member of New Life Ministry Church.
Funeral services were held Nov. 29 at New Life Ministry Church with Bro. Woodrow Taylor officiating. Burial was in Belgreen Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Gann; two sons, Lonnie Gann, of Golden, Miss. and Tony Gann and wife, Sherie, of Pulaski, Tenn.; one daughter, Sandy Forshey and husband, Matt, of Pulaski, Tenn.; her mother, Virgie Clark, of Russellville; five sisters, Linda Everett, of Crooked Oak; Brenda Kinard, of Phil Campbell, Vernell Allison, of Hamilton, Peggy Colburn, of Mountain Star, and Patty Wallace, of Littleville; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Avery Chandler.
Pallbearers were Chad Gann, David Channel, Matt Forshey, Christopher Gann, Nicky Taylor and James Brazille.
Lura Irene Wingo

Lura Irene Wingo, 87, of Golden, Miss., passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at her residence. She was born April 6, 1922 in Itawamba County, Miss. to Sim and Lula Castleberry Moore. She was retired from Abbott Laboratories. She and her husband owned and operated J &L Drive Inn.
Funeral services were held Dec. 1, at Deaton Funeral Home with Bro. L.D. Blevins officiating. Burial was in Ridge Cemetery.
She is survived by her two daughters, Regina Inmon and husband, Junior, of Golden, Miss. and Colene Moats and husband, Winston, of Cherokee, Ala.; two sons, James Wade Wingo and wife, Christine, of Port Edwards, Wis., and Robert Terry Wingo, of Zion, Ill.; three sisters, Dorothy Cross, of Tremont, Miss., Louise Jackson, of Fulton, Miss. and Betty Hammond, of Marietta, Miss.; one brother, Dean Moore, of Ryans Well, Miss.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Wingo; her parents; two children, Billy Wayne Wingo and Laura Nadene Crocker; and five brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers were James Church, Johnny church, Matthew Church, Michael Church, Lee Bates and Johnny Davis.
Annie Massey Hovater

Annie Massey Hovater, 96, of Russellville, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home.
The visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 11 a.m. with Bro. Barry Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Hovater; parents, Nute and Clara Massey; brother, Carl F. Massey.
She is survived by her son, Joe Edward Hovater and wife, Barbara, of Decatur, Ala.; grandchildren, Barbi and David Archer, of Decatur, Ala., Teri and Ken Wales, of Madison, Ala., and Jonas Hovater, of Decatur, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Nicole Archer, Kaitlin Archer, Ethan Wales, and Kyle Wales; sister, Kathleen Thompson, of Florence, Ala.
She was born in Spruce Pine on Feb. 2, 1913 to Nute and Clara Rauschenberg Massey of Vina. She was a long time resident of Russellville and a member of First Baptist Church. She attended Florence State Teachers College and taught in the Franklin County schools and was a saleslady for Elmore Department Store.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Annie loved children and was a hard worker. She also loved to travel with her sister. She will be greatly missed by all.
