Auburn looking for eighth win

By Staff
The South's oldest rivalry is renewed tonight when Auburn travels to Georgia in an attempt to end a two-game losing streak in the series.
The rivalry is intense already, but Auburn is looking to pick up its eighth win of the year and improve its bowl prospects while Georgia is looking for its sixth win to become bowl eligible. Both teams are 3-3 in Southeastern Conference play.
The Auburn offense has looked good the previous two weeks, with running back Ben Tate continuing to look like the most consistent and dangerous offensive weapon.
Tate is third in the SEC and 12th nationally with 114.2 rushing yards per game. His 1,142 rushing yards makes him the 18th player in Auburn history to reach the 1,000-yard mark in a single season.
Quarterback Chris Todd has 17 touchdown passes, which is 14th most in the NCAA and his passing efficiency (146.55) is 22nd in the nation.
The Georgia defense has struggled all season and has allowed several opponents to post high point totals.
Linebacker Rennie Curran is second in the SEC with 9.1 tackles per game.
The Bulldog offense his finally found a consistent rusher in Washaun Ealey, but quarterback Joe Cox has had a disappointing season. Cox's favorite target, A.J. Green missed last week's game with a bruised lung.
Auburn's Antonio Coleman leads the SEC with 12.5 tackles for a loss and is second with 6.5 sacks. Craig Stevens leads the Tigers with 79 tackles.
Walter McFadden has four interceptions, tied for first in the SEC.
The teams have met 112 previous times with Auburn holding a 53-51-8 advantage, but Georgia has outscored Auburn by 49 points (1,747-1,698).
This will be the only the second time in the last 33 meetings that neither team has been ranked in the Associated Press poll. In the previous 13 games, the lower ranked team has won nine times.
