Man charged in second officer shooting case

A man already in jail for shooting at one police officer after a pharmacy break-in was charged in the same type of case again Thursday.
Steve Jeffrey Cain, 49, Franklin 20, Spruce Pine, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree receiving stolen property, first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree theft of property.
Cain is accused of breaking into a Phil Campbell pharmacy on Sept. 11. Reports indicate he shot at a Phil Campbell officer as many as nine times before getting away.
Cain was already being held in the Franklin County Jail from an incident later in September in which he fired at Russellville officers after a pharmacy break-in.
He was shot once in his right side when police returned fire outside Concord Baptist Church on Gandy Street in Russellville.
A nearby resident called police when they saw Cain outside of Hometown Pharmacy. When officers arrived they found Cain and a woman in front of the church.
When a taser failed to stop Cain from fleeing, officers chased after him. Cain fired at the officer in pursuit.
He is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, second-degree attempted burglary and a felon in possession of a weapon in that case.
