Tax issue far from dead it appears
By Staff
The Russellville City Council split again Monday on a vote that would increase the city's sales tax by one-cent.
It marked the second time the council deadlocked 3-3 on the matter.
The stalemate has kept the council from passing a balanced operating budget. If the tax does not pass, then council members will be forced to make some cuts.
The issue seems to have risen quite a bit of interest throughout the county, as does any matter relating to taxes, especially increases.
More than one-third of the funds, if passed, would be used by the city schools system, which is cash-strapped at the time.
At this time, it looks like some tough choices, either way, will have to be made.
