Vina sweeps Waterloo

The Vina football team rolled up 446 total yards of offense against Waterloo as the Red Devils earned their second victory against the Cougars in a five-day span with a 22-7 win on the road.
A 56-yard run by Morgan McCarley set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Ethan Hammock to put the Red Devils up 6-0 early in the first quarter.
McCarley extended the lead with a 24-yard pass to Adam Pharr five minutes later. McCarley scored on the 2-point conversion to push the lead to 14-0.
Waterloo (1-6, 0-4) answered in the second quarter with a 28-yard touchdown pass to cut the halftime deficit to 14-7.
Vina (3-5, 2-3) added another score with 10:31 to play on a 4-yard run by McCarley. Brent Townsend scored on the 2-point conversion to seal the 22-7 victory.
McCarley finished the night with 175 rushing yards while Hammock had 137 rushing yards as the Red Devils gained 381 yards on the ground for the night.
McCarley also completed 3-of-7 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. He did not throw an interception.
Pharr was the leading receiver with a pair of catches for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Vina returns home next Friday to host Tharptown. The game begins at 7 p.m.
