HATTON – Phil Campbell had hoped to build on last week's victory against Cherokee and put together a win streak, but Hatton had other plans and scored a late touchdown to spoil the Bobcats' night 36-35.
Phil Campbell scored with a 65-yard touchdown pass from Jeff White to Dillan Hamby. Craig Saint's point after kick was good to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.
Hatton (3-5, 2-4) added a score and a 2-point conversion to take a 8-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Dylan Kastberg picked off a pass for Phil Campbell (2-6, 1-5) and returned the interception 53 yards for a touchdown and Saint added another extra point.
The Hornets were able to answer, but the 2-point conversion failed and the score remained tied at 14-14.
With 4:26 remaining in the first half, White found Hamby for another long touchdown pass, this one for 47yards, and Saint added another PAT to put the Bobcats ahead 21-14.
Hatton answered with 1:17 to play in the second quarter, but the 2-point conversion failed and the Bobcats took a 21-20 lead into halftime.
The Hornets regained the lead with a touchdown and 2-point conversion in the third, but Phil Campbell was able to tie the game with a 5-yard run by Brent Whitten and a PAT by Saint.
The Bobcats appeared to have secured the victory with a 20-yard touchdown run by White with 57 seconds to play in the game, but Hatton scored as time expired to pull within 35-34.
The Hornets scored on the 2-point conversion to steal the win.
Phil Campbell closes out its region schedule next Friday at home against Westminster Christian Academy. The game begins at 7 p.m.
