County passes $11.4 million budget

By Staff
Jonathan Willis
The Franklin County Commission passed the fiscal year 2009-2010 budget during a special called meeting Monday.
The $11,478,466.67 budget is divided between the county's general fund, the highway department and the solid waste department.
The general fund will consist of $5,917,522.67, the highway department was appropriated $3,220,493 and the solid waste department will receive $2,340,451.
The difference needed to balance the budget will come from transfers from the capital improvement fund, public buildings fund, public highway and traffic fund and the balance brought forward from the previous fiscal year.
The budget also includes a one-time lump pay adjustment of $900 for all full-time employees with one or more years of service.
Full-time employees with less than one year of service will be prorated at $75 per month for each month of service they have worked. The county also absorbed a 10 percent increase in health insurance premiums.
The new budget also reflects the appointment of Crista Madden as county administrator, which will take effect Oct. 1.
