CITY program asks for help from Red Bay's council

RED BAY – A representative from the C.I.T.Y. Program met with the Red Bay City Council during their work session Monday night prior to the start of the regular council meeting.
Former Commissioner Rayburn Massey asked the council to consider helping fund the program as they prepare the budget for the upcoming year.
"I know money is tight," Massey told the council. "A lot of times, at risk programs have been thrown to the wolves during tough economic times, but this program is one of the most successful in the state."
Massey said the program has helped 350 at-risk students since 1999, and 61 of those students were from the Red Bay area.
Mayor Bobby Forsythe asked Massey to return to the council when there is a better idea of an amount that is needed.
No actions were taken on this matter during the work session.
