VINA – Vina played hard, but the high powered offense of Phillips was too much for the Red Devils to overcome Friday as the Bears pulled away in the second half for a 44-14 win.
Phillips (3-0, 2-0) scored first with a 20-yard pass, but failed to add the extra point to take a 6-0 lead with 4:54 remaining in the first quarter.
Morgan McCarley tied the game on a 5-yard run in the second quarter, but Vina (1-2, 1-2) was unable to take the lead when the extra point attempt was no good.
Phillips added a pair of touchdowns and 2-point conversions to move ahead 22-6 with 1:52 remaining in the second quarter.
McCarley cut into the deficit when he found Brent Townsend for a 47-yard touchdown pass a little more than a minute later.
Phillips added to its lead with a scoring run of one yard with 1:47 remaining in the first quarter.
The Bears had scoring plays of seven yards and two yards in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.
McCarley had all of Vina's 54 rushing yards. He also completed 8-of-19 passes for 146 yards. He had one touchdown pass and two interceptions.
Townsend led the receivers with five receptions for 91 yards while Nick Schmittou had four catches for 62 yards. Schmittou led the Red Devils with 11 tackles.
