RB Chief resigns, takes another position

RED BAY -Police Chief Pat Creel resigned from his post this week. The council accepted his resignation and voted to make Assistant Chief Jana Jackson acting chief until the council names a new chief.
Creel had been with the department since 2004. He turned in his resignation last week citing personal reasons During his time as chief, Creel helped form the Special Response Team, a team of volunteer law enforcement officials specially trained is SWAT tactics to be used in high risk situations; wrote the policy and procedure manual for police department, and obtained over $100,000 in grant money for equipment for the police department
Creel also served as president of the state chief's association during his term in Red Bay, and is currently still serving on the executive board.
Creel has taken a chief position in South Alabama to be closer to family.
Mayor Bobby Forsythe said he and the council wish Creel the very best in his future endeavors.
"We wish him the very best," Forsythe said. "He has my admiration and respect because of the nature of the field in which he works. "

The next regular council meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
