Forest H. Oliver

Forest Herman Oliver, 74 of Haleyville, died Friday, July 17, 2009 at UAB Hospital.
Mr. Oliver was a native of Franklin County and a member of Orange Baptist Church. He was a dairyman and farmer for 43 years and was a board member of Alfa Farmers Federation for several years.
Visitation was Sunday, July 19 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville. The funeral was held Monday, July 20, at Orange Baptist Church. Bro. Roy Griffes was officiating. Burial was in the Orange Baptist Church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Bates Oliver; daughters Renee, and husband Jimmy, Lane of Haleyville and Tammy, and husband Jimmy, Taylor of Russellville; grandchildren Chris, and wife Ondrea, Lane, Jason, and wife Krystal, Lane, Jeremy, and wife Christy, Lane, Amy, and husband Randy, Tidwell and Olivia Taylor; great-grandchildren Lexi Lane, Dylan Lane, Thomas Baker, Makayla Lane, Mason Lane and Wyatt Tidwell; step-great-grandchildren Mia, Drake and Devon; sisters Gaynell Dover, Elwynn Frost, Short Burnett and Vera Woodall; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by son Terry Kyle Oliver, parents John and Cordelia Oliver, brothers Clayton Oliver, J.W. Oliver and Virgil Oliver; sisters Loretta Murphy, Grace Williams and Toots Camp.
Billy L. Tompkins

Billy Lee Tompkins, 65 of Russellville, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital.
Mr. Tompkins was born and resided in Franklin County all his life and was a member of Cedar Creek Presbyterian Church. He was retired from American Bakeries after 25 years of service. For several years, he owned and operated a sports memorabilia shop.
Visitation was Sunday, July 19 at Pinkard Funeral Home. The funeral was held Monday, July 20 at Pinkard Funeral Home, with Bro. Johnny Richardson officiating. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Faye Smith Tompkins; son Joel, and wife Suzanne, Tompkins; sisters Evelyn Bragwell and Jeanette James, both of Russellville; brother James R., and wife Joyce, Tompkins of Russellville; several nieces and nephews and faithful dog, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. and Leona Tompkins.
Pallbearers were Danny Gist, Gerald Smith, Rickey Smith, Billy Crews, Marlin Landers, Harold Hazle and James Ergle.
He was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed. The family also sends a special thanks to the third floor nurses at Helen Keller Hospital.
R.W. Darty

Mr. R.W. Darty, 83 of Hartford, died Monday, July 13, 2009 in Henry County Nursing Home.
Memorial services were held Friday, July 17, 2009 at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford, with Rev. Earl Clark officiating. Mr. Darty was laid to rest in Russellville, where he was a native before moving to Geneva County.
Mr. Darty is survived by the mother of his children, Ruth Borden Darty; one son, Norman, and wife Nancy, Darty of Hartford; three daughters, Shirley, and husband Danny, Ledbetter of Summerville, S.C., Minet, and husband Jeff, Glenn of Crescent, Ga., and Diane, and husband Gus, Bradley of Hartford; two grandchildren, Lisa, and husband Greg, Tharpe of Dothan and Christopher, and wife Jackie, Owens of Pensacola, Fla. and seven great-grandchildren.
Vick Holland

Vick Holland, 80 of Red Bay, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at his residence. He was born April 27, 1929 in Franklin County to William Luther and Margie Murphy Holland. He was an employee of Mueller Brass for 22 years and STI Trucking for 15 years. He was a member of Bethel Church of God.
Services were Saturday, July 18, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel of Red Bay. Burial was in Red Bay City Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ivy Holland; two sons, Randy, and wife Kathy, Holland and Randall, and wife Regina, Holland all of Red Bay; one daughter Rhonda, and husband Tony, Hester of Red Bay; one brother, Arvin, and wife Lillie, Holland of Monticello, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Kristin Nunley, Kyle Palmer, Sarah Hester, Lauren Holland, Leah Palmer, Grant Holland, Maddie Holland, Emily Hester and Jake Holland and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvis Holland and nephew Tommy Holland.
Pallbearers were grandsons, family and friends.
Gillie "G.G." Gober

Gillie "G.G." Gober, 91 of Red Bay, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Southern Magnolia in Golden, Miss. He was born on July 26, 1918 in Alabama to M.O. and Mary Elrod Gober. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World Warr II and the Korean conflict.
Services were Tuesday, July 21 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel of Red Bay. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Garden.
He is survived by his grandson, Scott Hamm of Red Bay; his sister Juanita "Neat" Massey of Russellville; two brothers, Bill, and wife Mary Lou, Gober of Sheffield and Charles, and wife Helen, of Red Bay; special niece Glenda James of Red Bay and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Deloris Gober; his daughter Joyce Livingson; his sister Effie Massey and two brothers, Orval and Tommie Gober.
Pallbearers were Neal McMahand, Ernie Brolin, Frank Inman, Jr. and Glenn Grissom.
Jerry Don Kimbrough

Jerry Don Kimbrough went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2009. His family includes his loving wife Mary Kimbrough; his daughters and sons-in-law Butch and Cherri Henderson, John and Jerri Evans; his grand children Beth Webster and husband Noah, Alan Henderson and wife Lauren, Jama Henderson, Cassidy Evans and Christy Evans; sister Maxzene Hester and husband R.C.; a niece and nephew.
Mr. Kimbrough is preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Don, and his parents W.B. (Mack) and Inez Kimbrough.
Mr. Kimbrough was an active member of First Baptist Church, Opelika. He was also a member of the East Alabama Gem and Mineral Society. Mr. Kimbrough served as the tax assessor of Franklin County for one term. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 until his retirement in 1964.
In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts to the First Baptist Church Opelika building fund or the First Baptist Church Russellville building fund.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23,10-11 a.m. at Jeff Coat Funeral Home in Opelika with a service following. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 10-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Russellville with services following.
Bynam Vandiver

Mr. Drewey Bynam Vandiver, 84, of Braselton, Ga., passed away quietly Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Holmes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the funeral home.
Mr. Vandiver was born in Franklin County and was the son of the late William Lonnie Vandiver and Ludie Vandiver. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr.Vandiver loved his family and grandchildren. He also loved fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Mark Daniel Vandiver and Hoyt Lee Vandiver; and a daughter, Lisa Lynn Vandiver.
Mr. Vandiver is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alma Baker Vandiver, Braselton, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Rosie Mae and Walter Clark, Winder, Ga.; daughter, Imojean Mull, Jefferson, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Jonette and Walter Storey, Jefferson, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Harold D. and Carol Vandiver, Braselton, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 28great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; he is also survived by a host of other family and friends.
