PC 9-10 All-Stars going to state tourney

The Phil Campbell 9-10 Dixie Youth All-Stars fought their way through a 12-team double elimination tournament to clench the District II championship and a berth in the state tournament.
Phil Campbell opened the tournament with a 3-2 victory against Tuscumbia then defeated Brooks 7-0 and Haleyville 4-3.
The Bobcats then knocked off Winfield 10-2 and beat Colbert Heights in the semifinals.
They faced Winfield in the finals and won 15-0 to wrap up the district title with a 6-0 record in the tournament.
Phil Campbell outscored its opponents 46-8 to earn its first trip to the state tournament in 12 years.
Several players put up impressive statistics in the tournament.
Payton Nichols who pitched two strong games. Against Brooks he threw a no-hitter and struck out 11 opposing batters. He struck out 10 batters against Winfield.
He also had two singles and an RBI during the tournament.
Colby Baker hit two homers and struck out eight during five innings of work. Swinney hit two doubles and drove in two runs while Peyton Thomas also hit two doubles.
Blake Jones had a three-RBI triple and Tanner Summeral had a double and drove in a pair of runs.
Gage Roberson doubled, Grant Masterson singled and Chase Hutchens and Joe Hardy drove in one run each.
The state tournament will be July 25 in Muscle Shoals. If the Bobcats win that tournament, they will travel to Laurell, Miss. to play int he national tourney.
