City hosting July Fourth celebration

By Staff

County residents will not have to travel far to enjoy a July Fourth celebration.
The city of Russellville will host a July Fourth fireworks show and concert for the second straight year at Sloss Lake.
The free activities will begin at 12 noon and will conclude with a fireworks show shortly after 9 p.m.
City Councilman Gary Cummings said the line-up of local music acts will feature something for everyone.
Entertainment will begin at 2 p.m. with local gospel group, The Brethren.
A popular local band known as Rewind will perform at 5 p.m., followed by Southbound at 6:30 p.m.
The headlining performer will be the Kerry Gilbert Band, who will perform at 8 p.m.
Throughout the day, there will be activities and games for children.
Cummings said he hopes to attract a large crowd and the event will continue to grow in the future.
"I want to have something for the city of Russellville," he said.
"I didn't run (for city council) just to meet and pay the bills and the travel report. I want us to do things for our city and residents.
"This will be something people can come out and enjoy all day and it is all free to them."
