Cities to receive facelifts with banners

New signs welcoming visitors to downtown Russellville and Phil Campbell will be hanging soon.
The "Buy a Banner..It Matters" campaign by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce is coming to a successful close.
The chamber has successfully sold its goal of 40 banners for downtown Russellville and is quickly approaching the 20-banner goal set for Phil Campbell.
"It has been fantastic," said Cheryl Bradford, executive director of the chamber of commerce.
Local businesses, clubs, organizations and families have purchased the banners to give each city a new look.
Bradford said she had hoped to have the banners hanging by the annual Watermelon Festival in August, but now believes that will have to wait.
"With the downtown streetscape project going on, I think it's going to be best to wait until the new poles are hanging in Russellville," she said. "So we have delayed it a little, but I think the banners will really make our downtowns look so much better."
The city of Red Bay purchased downtown banners last year.
"I think the success we had is an example of how much the community wants to see improvements in our communities," Bradford said. "We really appreciate the support that we have had on this."
