Belgreen, Red Bay girls host tourneys

The Belgreen and Red Bay varsity girls basketball teams will host area tournaments after securing the top seeds in regular-season area play.
In the Class 1A, Area 15 Tournament Belgreen and Tharptown each earned first-round byes while Vina finished sixth in the area and will play Speake Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament.
The winner will advance to the semifinals to play Tharptown Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs play the winner of the Phillips vs. Mt. Hope game Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.
Red Bay also earned a first-round bye in the Class 2A, Area 14 Tournament. Fourth-seeded Phil Campbell will open the tournament Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. against Cherokee. The winner of that game will advance to the Feb. 5 semifinal game against Red Bay at 6 p.m.
Russellville earned the No.3-seed in the Class 5A, Area 15 Tournament at Athens. The Lady Tigers will play Hartselle Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. with the winner meeting the winner of the Athens vs. Muscle Shoals game for the title.
