City candidates set to begin qualifying

By Staff

With city elections just around the corner, officials are beginning to make plans for what should be several highly contested elections throughout the county.
Russellville City Clerk Kim Wright will hold a meeting Monday, June 30, at 5 p.m. at city hall with anyone who plans to seek a city council seat or enter the mayoral race.
Qualifying officially begins July 1, but Wright hopes that meeting with candidates on the evening before will make things go smoother.
"The purpose will be to go over some paperwork and answer any questions that I can for the candidates," she said.
Several forms must be filled out before a candidate is eligible to run. Wright said she hopes to give each candidate a better understanding of what is expected of them on the evening before.
"Historically, we have a large number of candidates who come in to qualify on the first day," she said.
"Hopefully this should speed things up."
Qualifying for municipal elections throughout the county will end at 5 p.m. on July 15.
Wright said anyone interested in entering one of the city races is welcome to attend the meeting.
"It will just be an informal meeting where I can share some information with them and hopefully help with any confusion and speed up the qualifying process," Wright said.
