Twin Pines Country Club in Littleville will host the second annual Judy Jester Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29.
The tournament, which was held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Iron City last year, has already registered more teams than the inaugural event won by Tony Olive, Stewart Clark and Kyle Presley.
"We already have 18 teams, which is one more than last year's total, and we're shooting for 40-45 teams," said tournament founder and co-director Chad Nichols. "We decided to move the tournament to Twin Pines because it's more accessible to people around here, and it cost less because I'm a member."
Nichols started the tournament to help raise money for the Judy Jester Memorial Scholarship, which was created to honor his mother, a former first-grade teacher at Hatton Elementary in Lawrence County who was killed in an after-school attack in 2005.
"The scholarship is for former Hatton Elementary students, and there had been balloon drives and book sales, but I thought a golf tournament would be an easier way to raise money," Nichols said. "Having a golf tournament made sense because my mother liked golf, and I play it a lot."
The tournament format is a three-man scramble with a $100 registration fee per player or $300 per team. There will be first ($900), second ($450) and third place ($275) prizes awarded for each flight. Tee times are available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"The registration fee includes lunch, finger foods, music and a Saturday night calcutta, which is an auction for teams to play the Sunday rounds," said tournament co-director Jud Stockard.
