A.J. Underwood, 84, of Spruce Pine, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Burns Nursing Home.
He was a lifetime resident of Franklin County and member of the Church of Christ. He retired from Michael Construction Company with 30 years of service.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Eddie Caskey officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his son, Elliott Underwood and wife, Linda, Spruce Pine; sister, Sara Lanier and husband, Johnny, Morris; grandson, Greg Underwood and wife, Sheila, great-granddaughter, Kelbi Underwood, all of Russellville.
Pallbearers were Greg Underwood, Wally Poss, Jimmy Poss, Joe Poss, Thomas Underwood and George Humphries.
Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Underwood; brothers, Harry Underwood, Jim Underwood; sisters, Ira Poss, Louise Dennis, Ruby Wood and Dot Miller.
Hancel J.D. Borden

Hancel J.D. Borden, of Moulton, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Spry Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Kirby and Sister Pearl Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Tharptown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Radford, Billy Wyrick, Eric Sparks, Shane Holliman, Roy Borden, Kenneth Holland and Darrian Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
He is survived by his son, Jimmy (B.J.) Borden; daughters, Diane (Tim) Radford, Darlene (Anthony) Horton; brother, Monroe Borden; sister, Lillian Wright; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (with three on the way) and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Cummings; three brothers, three sisters and his parents.
He was a good hearted man who loved his children and family very much. He remains very precious to his children and was always there for them. He served his country proudly as part of the U.S. Marine Corps. He left his family and friends with a lot of good memories and will be missed by all.

Era Cornelious Todd, 95, of Spruce Pine, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Terrace Manor Nursing Home.
Miss Todd lived her entire life in Franklin County and was a member of Spruce Pine Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on May 5, 2008, at Pinkard Funeral Home with Bro. Jerome Sherill officiating. Burial was in Spruce Pine Cemetery.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas Odell Todd; nephews, Thomas D. Todd and wife, Deb, Samuel T. Todd and wife, Barbara; great nieces and nephews, Lee Todd, Will Todd, Megan Todd, Ashley Todd, Courtney Todd and Sam Hunter Todd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel W.H. and Nelepthybezzle Todd; brothers, Werford C. Todd and Dwight D. Todd.
Delmer King

Delmer King, 79, of Jasper, died May 2, 2008.
Funeral services were held May 4, 2008, at Colbert Memorial Chapel with Bro. Chad Hayes officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memory Gardens.
He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn King; daughter, Glenda (Sonny) Springer, of Jasper; sister, Ramona (Pete) Thorn, of Russellville; brother, Tiffin (May) King, of Phil Campbell; granddaughter, Beth Springer, of Birmingham; special cousins, Billy (Patsy) King, of Russellville, Carolyn (Billy) Robinson, of Jennnings, Okla., and Marilyn (Larry) Sherill, of Russellville.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
He was a member of Jasper's First Baptist Church and member of the Iron Workers Local #477.
Willard L. Beam

Willard L. Beam, of Highland, Ind., formerly of Russellville, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy (Seay) Beam, formerly of Russellville; two daughters, Cindy (Dennis) Schwerin, of Highland, Ind., and Jill (Tracy) Short, of Olympia, Wash.; five grandchildren: Douglas (Jennifer) Schwerin, Nicholas Schwerin, Cassandra Short, Carli Short and Tiffany Short; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Schwerin; one brother, Wiley (Doris) Beam, of Russellville; two sisters, Helen (late James) Kilpatrick, of Russellville, and Frances (Ralph) McCann, of Russellville.
Willard was retired as a mechanic from Heckett Engineering and Local 150 after 30 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and gentle caring man. He loved teaching his daughters and grandchildren the game of golf.
Willard was proud of his achievements in the local Pro Am golf tournaments. Willard, our daddy and papa, will be deeply missed.
Per Willard's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation by American Cremation Association. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Ave., Munster, IN 46321 in honor of Willard.
