RHS softball caps season in area tournament
ATHENS – The Russellville varsity softball team closed out its season Thursday with two losses in the Class 5A, Area 16 tournament.
Russellville (4-18) lost to Athens 5-0 in the first game as the Lady Golden Eagles scored a run in the first and third innings and three in the fourth. Kayla Stephens singled, Lindsey Gardner walked and Lauren Murray had five putouts for Russellville. Breannia Malone took the loss in seven innings, striking out three and allowing nine hits with two walks and three earned runs.
In the second game, Muscle Shoals defeated Russellville 17-4. The Lady Trojans broke a 1-1 tie with eight runs in the second inning. Russellville added three more runs to cut the margin to 9-4 but Muscle Shoals added six more runs in the top of the fifth to end the game. Murray, who had six putouts, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Dana Pruett went 2-for-3 and Holly Parrish and Stephens each singled for the Lady Golden Tigers. Derryl Gardner, Parrish and Laurie Rickard all drew walks, while Mallory McCreary, who had four assists, took the loss for Russellville, striking out three and allowing 13 hits with only one walk.
THS bean supper fundraiser
May 5
The Tharptown varsity softball program will hold a bean supper fundraiser Monday, May 5 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the school's softball field.
RHS basketball banquet
May 6
The Russellville High School girls and boys basketball banquet will be held Tuesday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church gymnasium. Advance tickets are $10, and they will also be available at the door. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information or to order tickets, call 331-2022, ext. 1460.

BASS regional tournament
May 22-23
DECATUR – The BASS Club World Championship (BCWC) Regional Tournament, a qualifier for the World Championship, will be held Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23.
Ten regional tournaments are held throughout the year with winners from each advancing to the BASS Club World Championship, which is set for Oct. 6-11. For more information on the BCWC tournaments, visit www.bassmaster.com.
