All parties welcome

Each year our televisions and radios are inundated about this time of year with politicos seeking our votes.
I am probably the least political person I know. However, in working at a newspaper I have come to realize people will assume your political preferences based on the day's headlines.
I have been accused of being Republican and I've been accused of being a Democrat. The truth is, I don't really consider myself either.
In the past, I've voted for both.
I voted for Don Siegelman once and I voted for Bob Riley once. I typically vote split ticket in local elections because I like to vote for the person not the party.
Working at a newspaper makes local elections more interesting. You get to know most of the candidates both politically and personally.
Truthfully, I enjoy local elections. They tend to be much cleaner than national ones. The antics and accusations major political candidates banter back and forth disgusts me.
By now, I'm sure many of you have realized election season is upon us, from the political signs to the announcement stories you've seen in this newspaper, many candidates have already made their intent known.
It is the policy of this newspaper to run all candidate announcements, as we consider that news vital to our community. However, in the spirit of fair competition we will not run any announcements after three weeks before the party primaries. Our May 11 edition will be the last day for candidate announcement stories with offices on the June primary ballot.
These announcement stories run free of charge. You're welcome to mail, email or fax them to us, bring them by or stop by the office here.
We'll be glad to sit down with you and write it for you following a brief interview.
So, to all the candidates who have yet to make their intent known, I urge you to do so in the next few weeks.
Each morning your potential voters open their Franklin County Times and don't see your name is a day you'll have to make up for on the streets.
I wish all local candidates good luck and here's to a good, clean race.
