PC swats back against Hatton to claim series

HATTON – No. 8 Phil Campbell dropped its series opener to Hatton 9-3 Friday but the Bobcats battled back to outscore the Hornets 15-7 in two games Saturday and advance to the second round.
In the second game, Phil Campbell (22-10) pounded Hatton 8-1 to force a deciding Game 3.
Junior right fielder Adam Mitchell gave Phil Campbell a 4-0 lead with a grand slam to left field that scored Lacey, Dill and Caleb Thompson in the first inning.
Hatton (13-23) answered in the bottom of the third as Dustin Brewer, Caleb Hatton and David Mims combined to drive in four runs and tie the game at 4-4.
The Bobcats came right back with two more runs as Thompson drew a bases-loaded walk to score Korey Pounders and Mitchell recorded his fifth RBI with a sacrifice fly ball to bring in Lacey.
The Hornets tied the game again at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings as Lee Allen drove in a run and Zeke Nichols came around to score off an error.
Lacey and Dill forced in two runs in the top of the eighth and Thompson drove in the final run to put Phil Campbell ahead 9-6.
The Bobcats will host Westminster Christian Friday at 4:30 pm. and 7 p.m. with the tiebreaker game set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
