A Tuscumbia man has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property after allegedly being found inside a stolen motor home.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said Richie O'Neal Landers, 34, of Woodmont Drive in Tuscumbia, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of first-degree theft of property and two counts of first-degree receiving stolen property.
Hargett said Landers was found inside a 1996 Winnebago motor home parked at Freemon Marine in Russellville.
The motor home was reported stolen from a business located on South Jackson earlier that day. A 16-foot utility trailer was also reported stolen from the business along with the vehicle.
"We received a report from the victim that the defendant was seen inside the motor home while it was parked at Freemon's," Hargett said.
Police attempted to get Landers to vacate the motor home, but after all attempts failed, officers entered the vehicle through the driver's side door.
Landers was found hiding inside the motor home's bathroom, investigators said.
"At that point, Landers was taken into custody," Hargett said.
According to the Alabama Criminal Code, first-degree theft of property and first-degree receiving stolen property are both Class B felonies punishable with two to 20 years in prison upon conviction.
Landers remains in the Franklin County Detention Center pending a $5,000 bond.
