Vina varsity splits with Brilliant

Holland's 20 points leads Lady Red Devils to 52-44 win

BRILLIANT – The Vina varsity girls earned a road victory Monday night with a 52-44 win over Brilliant.
Vina dominated in the first half and led 34-22 at halftime. Brilliant cut the lead to eight heading into the final period, but the Lady Red Devils matched them point for point to preserve the win.
Heather Holland led Vina with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Devyn Childers added 17 points. Lizette Martinez and Jessie Norwood each finished with seven points.

The Vina varsity boys jumped to a 12-5 lead in the opening quarter, but Brilliant battled back to win 62-51.
Vina trailed by only four points at halftime, but Brilliant outscored the Red Devils 26-16 in the third quarter and hung on to win in the final period.
Brent Townsend led Vina with 16 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Cass White had nine points, four rebounds and two steals.
Morgan McCarley added eight points, two rebounds and an assist, while Randy Barnes finished with six points and eight rebounds for the Red Devils.
Red Bay 60
New Site (Miss.) 54
RED BAY – The Red Bay varsity girls improved to 10-2 as they used clutch free-throw shooting to beat New Site 60-54 Friday night.
Brittany Scott poured in a season-high 26 points, and Chelsey McWilliams added 22 for the Lady Tigers, who were 12-of-13 from the free throw line during the final quarter.

Justin Page scored 17 ponits to lead the Red Bay varsity boys to a 65-50 win over New Site.
Grant Fancher and Derrick Miller finished with 15 points apiece, while Palo Makepeaced added 10 for the Tigers (3-6).
Tharptown 75
Athens Bible 42
THARPTOWN – Hollie Hines scored 19 points to lead the Tharptown varsity girls 75-42 over Athens Bible Friday night.
The Lady Wildcats (5-8) used a 19-4 run during the first quarter.
Chelsea McCluskey scored 17 points, while Autumn Hatton had 14 and Laken Barnett added 10 for Tharptown.

Athens Bible 56
The Athens Bible varsity boys broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to beat Tharptown 78-56.
The Trojans ended the game with a 29-12 run and Joseph Baker finished with a game-high 27 points.
Joseph Parker led Tharptown (4-9) with 17 points, and Manny Ricardo added 15.
