The weekend after Thanksgiving is typically known for shopping and preparing for Christmas festivities, but for some it's a time to begin giving back to the community and children in need.
There will be a benefit Toy Run for needy children on Saturday, Nov. 24 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Customize Cycles in Tuscumbia. While the run begins in Tuscumbia. The group's last stop will be the Faith Mission Outreach in Russellville.
"We ride from Tuscumbia to Faith Mission," event organizer Lymann Rea said. "At Faith Mission, we give out toys to needy children and have a meal."
Rea added that there is no charge to ride in the event or for the meal with the exception of bringing a toy to the event.
This year will be the sixth year the Toy Run has been held to help children in need.
"We have about 150 participants in the event, and we usually help about 30 kids," Rea said. "This is a great thing. Kids get the excitement of new toys and the participants get to see the children's faces the same day."
