THARPTOWN – The Tharptown Wildcats have experienced a lot of firsts in their second full year of football, but Friday night was a little different.
The Wildcats' opponent was the Alabama School for the Deaf, and the Silent Warriors used a variety of drum beats to relay plays from the sideline.
Tharptown (7-2) trailed the athletic Warriors 14-6 at halftime but finished with 335 yards of total offense en route to a 34-26 win.
The backfield of Daniel Scott and Tyler Cagle provide the spark on offense with four second-half touchdowns.
After scoring the Wildcats' only first-half touchdown with an 11-yard run in the first quarter, Scott added runs of 11 and 3 yards and a 2-point conversion to put Tharptown ahead 20-14 in the third quarter.
Cagle broke free for scoring runs of 7 and 10 yards in the fourth quarter and Trevor Hallmark scored a 2-point conversion to give the Wildcats the 34-26 victory.
Scott finished with 108 yards and three scores, while Cagle had 167 yards rushing for two touchdowns.
Jacob Parker recovered two onside kicks and Joseph Parker had an interception for Tharptown, which didn't turn the ball over.
Tharptown closes its season Friday night against Akron.
