I love a good trick and treat

I know it's hard to believe but it's true: Halloween is only a few days away. I love Halloween. I love dressing my kids up in costumes and taking them to festivals as well as trick-or-treating.
I love getting out in the crisp fall air and turning into a kid again as my kids and I go from house to house collecting treats and having a good time.
While Halloween is fun and exciting, it can also be a dangerous time. It's important to exercise some safety tips. First, make sure an adult accompanies all children, and that costumes can be seen in the dark. Always make sure your little goblin has a flashlight for safety.
Second, it's always wise to trick-or-treat in neighborhoods you know. Don't stray to an unknown place, and always make sure you inspect all treats before they are eaten.
Third, have fun. Halloween is about having fun and getting treats even if you are like me and have left your childhood behind.
Parents are supposed to enjoy nights like Halloween with their children. Fun nights like Halloween are the best part of being a parent. Enjoy it because there will come a day when your little goblin will grow up and these times will be gone – until you have grandchildren anyway.
If trick-or-treating is not your cup of tea, there are many activities going on in our area. Here are just a few: First Baptist Church of Red Bay's Fall Festival; First United Methodist Church of Russellville's Trunk or Treat; Spruce Pine First Baptist Church's Hallelujah Night; Pleasant Hill FMC's Fall Festival; and The Church of God of Prophecy in Russellville's Fall Festival.
These are just a few of the festivals going on this Wednesday night. Check our community calendar for times and more events going on in Franklin County.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween. And, don't forget to bring your little goblin in costume by our office to have the picture taken. These photos will be in our Friday, Nov. 2 edition.
