A Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy is going back to school this fall to study forensic science at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
Michael Hill, a deputy with 10 years of service to the sheriff's department, received a scholarship from the school to study forensic investigation at the community college.
"I have always been interested in going into forensic science, and am excited about this opportunity," Hill said.
The 32-year-old Russellville native plans to earn his associate's degree at Wallace State and pursue a bachelor's degree in forensic science from Athens State University.
"I plan to work with the Sheriff's Department as long as possible, but ultimately, my goal is to go into forensic science," Hill said.
Hill was notified early last week of the scholarship, and was pleased to learn of the opportunity.
"The scholarship pays for tuition and fees for the duration of the program," Hill said.
The forensic investigation program is offered through the school's Applied Science Degree Program, and gives special emphasis on laboratory practices used to develop evidence, according to the course program guide.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there is a high demand for graduates trained in forensic science and investigation.
