Board approves school calendar

At its March 16 meeting, the Russellville City Board of Education approved the calendar for 2006-07, extending the length of the school year.
As the education committee in the Alabama Senate waits to vote on a bill that will extend the school year five days, the board adopted a new calendar in anticipation of the change.
Ray also commented on the wall at Tiger Stadium that was blown down when severe weather moved through the area on March 9.
Noting the tremendous force of the wind that toppled the wall, which was built in 1966, Ray said it was fortunate that no one was hurt and that repairs to the wall should be underway soon.
At the beginning of the meeting, the board recognized Russellville High School students who participated in several state competitions. Students received certificates for outstanding showings at the All-State Chorus and All-State Thespian competitions, as well as the Health Occupations Students of America competition.
The board honored West Elementary Principal Ramona Robinson for being named the National Distinguished Principal for Alabama.
