PHIL CAMPBELL - The third quarter was not kind to the Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats on Monday night.
After playing Class 5A Muscle Shoals a tough first half, the Lady Bobcats struggled offensively in the third quarter as the Lady Trojans pulled away for a 47-31 win.
Muscle Shoals out-scored Phil Campbell 11-2 in the third to build a 17-point lead.
The Lady Bobcats (8-14) struggled throughout the game to keep Muscle Shoals (8-13) off the offensive glass.
Morgan saw significant minutes in the backcourt, helping Tanna Benford with the ball-handling duties against Muscle Shoals' pressure defense.
Benford seemed fresher in the fourth quarter, when she made two three-pointers and scored eight of her game-high 16 points.
Dionna Jones led Muscle Shoals with 15 points, and Kathryn Thompson added 11.
Jodi Taff and Erin Gilbert each had four points for Phil Campbell.
Phil Campbell will face county rival Belgreen in the first round of the Class 2A, Area 16 Tournament, on Thursday, February 10, at Red Bay High School.
The two teams have split two meetings this season.
