BellSouth announced Tuesday it will provide DirecTV satellite television service to its customers in addition to Internet access as well as wireless, local and long distance phone service.
All of the services will be available in a bundled offering and backed by BellSouth customer service.
DirecTV is one of three nationwide satellite television services including Dish Network and VOOM. DirecTV provides satellite television to more than 12.6 million customers nationwide.
BellSouth residential customers can now bundle the DirecTV Total Choice and the local channels package which delivers more than 125 channels with BellSouth's communications services at discounted savings through the BellSouth Answers package.
BellSouth customers will be able to get all DirecTV programming packages available to any DirecTV customer within a given service area.
DirecTV offers programming for everyone, including sports fans.
For a limited time only, new customers who subscribe to the DirecTV-exclusive NFL football package for four monthly payments of $62.25 and the Total Choice Premier package will receive the first four months of Total Choice Premier free.
BellSouth customers also can purchase a DirecTV digital video recorder for a one-time $99 payment and sign up for DirecTV DVR with TiVo service for only $4.99 per month. The monthly service fee is waived for Total Choice Premier customers.
A DVR uses a computer hard drive to record video programs; the recorder does not use videOtapes.
Under the terms of the marketing alliance, BellSouth will be responsible for the sales and ordering functions, and DirecTV will be responsible for the installation, billing and ongoing service for BellSouth customers.
