Bowlers from around the Meridian area and around the state of Mississippi will take aim in the bowling event as part of the 2004 State Games of Mississippi.
The event will take place at the Dixie Bowl Lanes on June 26 beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding with the finals on June 27 at noon. The event has grown in popularity over the past few years, averaging between 75-85 bowlers each year.
All of the youth bowlers participating in the event will be registered with a $24 fee and the all adults bowlers will enter the event with a $26 fee. The event will be broken down into six different divisions and three different sanctioning bodies will be involved in the event.
The sanctioning bodies include: American Bowling Congress, Women's International Bowling Congress, and Young American Bowling Alliance. All of the bowling will be scratch within the division and all of the participant can only enter the bowling event just once through the day.
ABC and WIBC entrants will bowl six games through the day and all of the youth bowlers will play four games. All of the winners in each division will be determined by total pin fall for the scheduled games. In the event of duplicate scores for a medal, each will be awarded.
All participants do not need to be a member of any of the organizations represented, but the bowlers can become members of the ABC or WIBC during the event based on score.
The lowest division will be represented by bowlers with a 120 and below average from the ABC league and the WIBC league. The highest division will field all bowlers with a scoring average of 201 and up.
Dixie Bowl Lane provides a slightly different set up than most competitors are used to bowling on. The lanes at the alley are constructed from wood instead of a synthetic material.
Founding Gold Sponsors of The State Games of Mississippi are Rush Foundation Hospital and Meridian's Coca-Cola, while Gold Sponsors are The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, The Partnership For a Healthy Mississippi, Bell South and Meridian Airport Authority.
