West Lauderdale gets back on winning track

Top-ranked West Lauderdale bounced back on Saturday from its first loss of the prep baseball season, taking a 7-1 win over Hattiesburg.
Parker Temple paced the Knights, pitching seven innings and collecting seven strikeouts while issuing just one walk.
Temple also hit three singles. Drew Snider and Dave Woods each had two singles.
West Lauderdale is now 16-1.
Indianola Academy 11
Newton Co. Academy 8
Indianola scored nine runs in the third inning to the three-run win over the Generals of Newton County Academy.
Morgan Craven had a triple, two singles and two RBIs to lead NCA, while Sam Thames and Tommy Harthcock had two singles and an RBI each for the Generals. Blake Hedrick also had two singles for NCA.
Hunter Palasini had a double and two singles for Indianola, while Drew Slater smacked two doubles.
Newton Co. Academy 14
Humphreys Academy 10
The Generals picked up nine runs in the second and five in the fourth to take the 14-10 win.
NCA had 12 hits in the game as it moved to 10-2 on the season.
Hedrick ripped two singles and a double and drove in four runs for the Generals, while Daniel Grimes had a single and double and an RBI and Lee Blackburn had two singles and an RBI.
Shelby Lloyd had three singles to lead Humphreys, while Eric Peeples had a double, single and two RBIs and Daniel Gilmer had two doubles and an RBI.
Louisville 8
West Lauderdale 7
West Lauderdale suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, coming up one run short against Louisville in an 8-7 loss in extra innings.
After battling to a 3-3 tie after seven innings, Louisville poured on five runs in the top of the eighth.
The Knights rallied in the bottom half of the inning, with Dave Woods smashing a grand slam to pull West Lauderdale within one run before Louisville escaped with the win.
Bo Davis hit a double and a single for the Knights, and Tyler Vick and Parker Temple each hit two singles.
Davis also pitched five innings for West Lauderdale.
Louisville improved to 13-1.
PREP SOFTBALL
Carthage 14
Philadelphia 5
Carthage scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 14-5 win over Philly.
Philadelphia picked up 11 hits against Carthage, but made eight errors in the game, which proved costly.
Candace Griffin had a double and two singles for Philly, while Shenique Brass and Alex Burt had two singles each.
Philadelphia 12
Sebastopol 2
Philadelphia scored at least one run in every inning, including four runs in the second and four more in the fifth against Sebastopol.
Philly, now 10-1 on the season, had 13 hits in the game. Brass had a double and two singles, while Burt had three singles. Brittany Hodges and Shelby Smith had two singles each for the winners.
West Lauderdale 6
Choctaw County 5
The Lady Knights took a 6-5 win over Choctaw County (Ala.). No other information was reported on this game.
Thomasville 10
West Lauderdale 5
West Lauderdale fell to 4-6 on the season with the loss to Thomasville (Ala.) High School. No other information was reported on this game.
JUCO BASEBALL
Pearl River 11-18
EMCC 5-8
The East Mississippi Community College Lions dropped a pair of games to Pearl River on Saturday to fall to 6-15 on the season.
EMCC dropped the opener 11-5. The Lions pitching staff put itself in a bad position early in the game, hitting seven batters in three innings.
Justin Faulkner had a two-run homer for EMCC in the opener. He went 3-for-3 on the game and drove in three total runs.
Pearl River won the second game 18-8, despite the fact EMCC banged out 13 hits.
Blake Pippin led the Lions with a single and double, while Justin Best had two singles, Chris Stamps had a double and two RBIs and Faulkner had an RBI single.
EMCC hosts Gulf Coast today.
JUCO SOFTBALL
Shelton State 9-11
Meridian CC 1-7
The Lady Eagles fell to 0-15 on the season with a pair of losses to Shelton (Ala.) State on Saturday.
Shelton rolled to a 9-1 win in the opener, but the Lady Eagles played tough in the second game, before falling 11-7.
Jessica Lawrence and Katie Barnett had three hits for MCC, while Raleigh Odom and Stephanie Choo had two hits each.
Choo (0-11) took the loss in the first game, while JorD'an Orr was the losing pitcher in the second game.
MCC visits Bishop (Ala.) State for a doubleheader today.
