ENTERPRISE Enterprise lost a defensive gamble against Bay Springs on Thursday night, suffering a season ending 77-33 loss in the quarterfinals of the Division 7-2A Tournament.
In the other boys' tournament game on Thursday, Bassfield beat Seminary 74-42. The two girls' games saw Bassfield beat Clarkdale 65-46 and Heidelberg down Seminary 69-17.
The tournament's hosts played much of their contest against Bay Springs in a 3-2 zone, pressing shooters to the outside and allowing few penetrations.
Trailing by 10 less than two minutes into the second quarter, David D'Angelo hit two free throws to bring Enterprise within 22-14. It was the last time Bay Springs led by fewer than 10, though.
Two Bay Springs layups in the first half's final 20 seconds left Enterprise trailing 44-25 at halftime, and Bay Springs' defense built a 39-point lead after holding Enterprise scoreless in the third quarter.
Dennis Watson scored a team-high 10 points for Enterprise, which finished 3-22 but loses just two players to graduation.
Bay Springs' Ben Jones, who drained six 3-pointers, led all scorers with 20 points.
