Although details are not final and congressional funding is still awaited, the Natural Resources Conservation Service is now taking applications for its Environmental Quality Incentives Program, or EQIP.
EQIP provides cost-share and incentive payments for the application of approved conservation practices on land.
At a meeting last month, district commissioners and a local work group set priorities for Lauderdale County EQIP, including water quality-sedimentation, grazing lands and sustainable forestry.
The last day to sign up will be March 1, and for people wishing nutrient management (lime and fertilizer), soil tests should be in no later than March 31.
For additional information, visit the Agriculture Department's service center at 2412 Seventh St., Suite 3, or call 483-4100, ext. 3.
