CHOCTAW Simply put, it was a game that will be talked about for years to come.
And why not? How many times has a basketball team in this area scored 90 points and lost soundly? Of those times, how often has it happened in a girls' contest?
It did Tuesday in a battle of unbeaten and Top 10 teams, as Choctaw Central outgunned Southeast Lauderdale 108-90 at the Scalping Grounds.
The game was even at 24 after one quarter and was still deadlocked at 33 with a little over five minutes left in the first half. Choctaw Central scored 15 of the next 19 points to grab a 48-37 lead with 2:41 left in the half and never trailed again after battling through 10 ties and four lead changes over the first 11 minutes.
Southeast closed to within 48-44 with 1:51 left in the half, but got no closer as the Lady Warriors led by as many as 18 points on three occasions.
Choctaw Central outrebounded the Lady Tigers 37-28. The Lady Warriors shot well too as they hit a dozen 3-pointers and were 12-of-16 at the free-throw line.
Eighth-ranked Choctaw Central (15-0 overall, 4-0 Division 5-3A) got 27 points from Mystee Dale, 26 from Chantay Frazier, 23 from Ashley Flint, 16 from Shyatesa York and 10 from Kristi Willis. Flint hit five treys and Frazier connected on three.
Flint had four treys in the first half, but also picked up four fouls. She didn't return until the final three minutes of the third quarter and promptly buried another 3-ball. The Lady Warriors looked like they might try to hold the ball to start the second half, but that didn't last long.
Fifth-ranked Southeast (16-1, 3-1) also placed five players in double figures. Samantha Smith scored 20 points, Stacy Tate had 19, LaShondra Hall 17, Shalonda Mitchell 16 and Tiawana Pringle 14.
Choctaw Central (boys) 93
Southeast 41
Southeast offered minimal resistance in the boys' game, falling behind 50-20 in the first half and trailing by as many as 53 points.
Choctaw Central (13-2, 3-1) got 19 points from Sean Ahshapanek, 15 from Rodgrick Anderson, 12 from Scotty Nickey, 10 from Justin Willis and nine from Joseph Martin.
Southeast (6-11, 1-3) got nine points from Lamar Crowell, eight from Robert Hopson and six each from Chris Gordon and Rodney Walk.
