Bowlers return to the lanes

Jan. 6, 2004
The parties are in the past, the presents unwrapped and exchanged for what you really wanted, the tree is back in the box and you've made it past that New Year's day "what happened?" feeling. Now it is back to business and time to make tracks into 2004. I hope everyone had a very happy and safe holiday season and I wish you all the best in the coming year.
As of last Friday, all leagues are back in business for the second half of the Fall &Winter season. While some leagues officially wrapped up the mid-way point prior to the break, others will be finishing their second round of competition this week. Last week, we wrapped up some of the happenings. So I though this week we could look ahead to what's in store in the coming months. For the first time in over a year and a half we have no state tournaments coming to town but other events are in store.
In February, both the men and the ladies will be hosting city tournaments. As I understand it at this moment, once again both tournaments will be held jointly on the same weekends. Look for entry forms and more information to be coming forth from your local associations in the coming weeks.
Stan's Classic Tournaments 8-Game Sweepers will be getting underway for the new year in the next couple of weeks with sweepers being held in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia throughout the year. Most events are scheduled two weeks apart and a complete schedule will be available at Dixie Bowl as more events are added.
Also on the horizon is a return visit by the S.A.S.B.A. to Dixie Bowl when many of the southeast's top bowlers make their way into town. Out of team events will include the ladies state tournament and the men's state tournaments as well as other favorites including the Southeastern Bowling Congress tournament, mens and ladies national and the Emerald Coast Classic in Pensacola, Fla. It looks like a big year is in front of us so start making your plans to enjoy 2004.
For those of you who didn't take part in the Bowl Your Average tournament over the break you missed the opportunity to take part in a new and interesting concept in tournament bowling. Bowlers bowled four games across eight lanes and any bowler who bowled their average or above for the four games shared equally in the prize fund. Final results should be posted by the time you read this and I hope to have a complete list of winners next week.
That's all for this week. Once again I hope each of you has a very happy and prosperous 2004.
