Lady Lions stay perfect, Lions winless

SCOOBA The East Mississippi Community College women's basketball team kept its record perfect, and the EMCC men's squad was left searching for its first win of the season Monday night.
The Lady Lions (2-0) picked up a 72-55 win over the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats (0-1), and the Lions (0-2) fell 70-57 to the JCJC Bobcats (1-0) ina contest filled with offensive miscues for EMCC.
The Lions turned the ball over 22 times in their loss to the Bobcats, including four in the opening five minutes of the game.
JCJC only connected on 12 of 42 shots in the opening 20 minutes of the contest, while forcing EMCC to turn the ball over 15 times in the same span.
Bobcats guard Marvin McDonald led the offensive push in the first half scoring 13 points, connecting on 3-of-11 three-pointers, to take a 31-21 lead into halftime.
JCJC forward Timothy Broomfield, who tallied five points in the first half, found his shooting touch in the second half.
The sophomore from Taylorsville hit 4-of-6 from the floor and knocked down two free throws in the game's closing 20 minutes to push the Bobcats past the Lions.
McDonald finished with a game-high 20 points, hitting a three-pointer and two shots form the floor in the second half, and Broomfield and guard John Gray each added 15 in the win.
EMCC forward Boo Ramsey paced the Lions offense with 15 points, hitting four three pointers, and forward Joseph Collins added 11. Lions guard Phillip Lockhart, who scored 47 points in the team's first game of the year, was held to seven points.
The Lady Lions used a late first-half surge to make up for squandering a big lead early in the game to down the Lady Bobcats.
EMCC jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the women's contest's opening seven minutes, but JCJC stormed back to tie the game at 14, with 10 minutes left in the first half.
The Lady Lions broke away from the Lady Bobcats with the score knotted at 29 with 1:34 left in the half.
EMCC scored six unanswered points to close the first half, including a fall-away two-pointer by guard Starr Potts at the buzzer to take a 35-29 lead into the break.
Potts, who scored 10 points in the first half and finished the game with 13, was not available for most of the second half.
The sophomore guard picked up her fourth foul three minutes into the half.
EMCC sophomore forward Katrina Jamison picked up the slack in Potts absence scoring 12 points in the second half to finish the game with 17.
Lady Lions freshman forward Jocelyn Spearman tallied eight of her 13 points in the second half to help lead EMCC to the win.
JCJC freshman guard Brittany Martin scored a team-high 15 points, and forward Natalle Jordan added 10 for the Lady Bobcats.
