Don't look now, but the Neshoba Central Rockets are on a roll.
By beating Northeast Lauderdale 35-18 last week, the Rockets have put together their first three-game win streak since beating Aberdeen, Kemper County, and New Hope near the end of the 2000 season.
Neshoba Central head coach Jim Ray hopes to extend the streak when the Rockets travel to Kosciusko for a Division 4-4A contest Friday night.
In the win over Northeast, Kevin Marshall rushed for 240 yards and scored three touchdowns on 31 carries. For the year, he has 814 yards on 159 carries.
Vowell had 73 yards and scored two touchdowns on 14 carries.
The Rockets are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in 4-4A. Kosciusko is 6-2 and 4-1.
The Whippets hold a 16-11 series lead over Neshoba after winning 10 straight from 1972-80. The teams met twice in 1977 with the second game for the Mid-Mississippi Conference championship. The Rockets posted a 20-12 victory a year ago.
Forest
at Choctaw Central
The Warriors and Bearcats meet for the first time Friday at Choctaw.
Choctaw Central lost a 34-26 contest at Raleigh last week to fall to 4-4 overall. The Warriors are 2-2 in Division 5-3A.
Forest knocked off West Lauderdale 21-10 to grab a share of the Division 5-3A lead at 3-1. The Bearcats are 5-2-1 overall.
In the loss at Raleigh, Choctaw Central's Shaun Jimmie threw four touchdown passes as the Warriors tried to battle back from a 34-14 deficit.
Philadelphia
at Williams-Sullivan
After a rugged stretch that has seen the Tornadoes go 6-2 with a pair of one-point wins, a seven-point win, and a struggle with Clarkdale last week, Philadelphia should get a break Friday as the Tornadoes travel to Durant to take on traditional whipping boy Williams-Sullivan. Philadelphia has won all 12 previous meetings by a combined 639-138 margin.
Philadelphia leads Division 5-2A with a 3-0 mark and only league doormats Williams-Sullivan and Kemper County remaining.
Williams-Sullivan comes in 0-3 in 5-2A and 3-5 overall after winning its first three games of 2003.
Leake Academy
at Heritage Academy
The Rebels playoff hopes rest on beating Heritage Friday at Columbus. A loss would eliminate Leake, while a victory would leave the Rebels and Patriots with 4-2 league marks. Leake would advance based on head-to-head result.
Leake racked up a 49-15 blowout over Canton Academy last week as Justin Sturdivant rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries.
Canton
at Louisville
After last week's 33-0 loss at Pearl, the Wildcats could use a break and Canton's Tigers are just what the doctor ordered.
Louisville is 3-1 in Division 4-4A and 5-3 overall, while Canton comes in 1-3 and 3-5.
Pelahatchie
at Nanih Waiya
The Warriors look to keep their playoff hopes alive when they host Pelahatchie in Region 3-1A action.
After beating Edinburg 46-7 last week, Nanih Waiya enters Friday's fray 4-3 in Region 3-1A and 5-3 overall. Pelahatchie lost 24-14 to South Leake last week. The Chiefs are 2-5 in 3-1A and 2-6 overall.
Sebastopol
at Noxapater
Sebastopol is still in search of its first win as the Bobcats head to Noxapater. Sebastopol lost 35-8 to Scott Central last week to fall to 0-7 both overall and in 3-1A.
Noxapater lost 28-19 to Pisgah to drop to 2-5 in 3-1A and 3-5 overall.
Winston Academy
at Central Academy
The Patriots and Vikings end their seasons Friday at Macon.
Winston beat Newton County Academy 33-28 last week to improve to 2-3 in Academy 3-A and 3-6 overall.
Central lost 32-0 to Wayne Academy to drop to 1-4 and 3-6.
Wayne Academy
at Kemper Academy
The Rams close out their season Friday when they host playoff-bound Wayne.
Kemper fell to 3-6 overall with last week and are 0-5 in Academy 3-A. Wayne is 3-1 in league play and 4-4 overall.
