Lady Knights get Boatner win No. 499
West Lauderdale head coach Jerry Boatner picked up his 498th and 499th career wins in softball Tuesday, as the Lady Knights advanced to meet Newton County Saturday at home in the playoffs.
West Lauderdale drummed Franklin County 26-2, 25-4 to sweep the second round series.
Summer Jones picked up both wins on the mound allowing just 12 hits in the two games to improve to 29-4 for the season.
In game one, Kristi Lantz led the offense with three hits, and Jones, Holly Harrington, Cindy Cagle and Leah Hailey each had two hits.
In the second game, Lantz, Katie Moulds, Katie McCallister and Brooke Bounds each had two hits. The Lady Knights record 37 hits in the two games.
Union 18-25
Ethel 2-1
Union advanced to the third round of the softball playoffs sweeping Ethel in a best-of-three series Tuesday.
Madison Brantley (19-8) picked up both wins on the mound for Union.
Lauren White led Union's offense with three hits, with two doubles, in the first game, and Brantley, Morgan Milling and Tiffany Thomas each had two hits.
In the second game, Beth Cadwell hits a homer for Union, and White and Milling added a triple and a double, respectively.
