Familiar rivals square off in DeKalb

Old familiar rivals square off in DeKalb Friday night when Kemper Academy hosts Newton County Academy. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
From 1973, the teams have met every fall with Kemper holding a 17-13 series advantage after winning the last three meetings.
Kemper took a 28-0 victory over the Generals last year.
Kemper enters this year's contest with a 2-0 mark following last week's win over Rebul Academy. NCA evened its record at 1-1 with a 44-0 rout of Calhoun Academy.
Tucker is much like Kemper's Pete McCleskey in that both added head coaching chores this fall to go with their headmaster roles at their respective schools.
John Shellenback completed 14 and 33-yard touchdown passes to Daniel Grimes in last week's NCA win at Calhoun.
Union at South Leake
Defending league champion Union lost a surprising 8-7 Region 3-1A contest to Noxapater last week and travels to Walnut Grove to take on a South Leake squad that comes in 0-0 after last week's game with S.V. Marshall was ruled no contest.
Anthony Johnson gained 120 yards on 14 carries against Noxapater and scored the Jackets' lone touchdown on a 60-yard run to start the third quarter.
Jess Brantley led Union in tackles with seven.
South Leake holds an 8-5 lead in the series.
Lafayette County at Newton County
The Cougars lost their season opener 20-2 at Kosciusko with the lone score coming on a safety on a Whippet punt attempt.
Newton County was led by Willie Windham's 43 yards on seven carries. The Cougars were just 3-of-12 passing with three dropped passes.
Will Pearson led the Cougar defense with nine tackles. Kennard Johnson and David Windham both had seven.
Lafayette County, 10-3 a year ago, lost its season opener 27-0 to Amory last Thursday.
Newton at Ackerman
Newton gets a taste of the top of Class 2A when the Tigers travel to second-ranked Ackerman Friday night.
The Tigers were shut out 24-0 in their season opener with Forest. Ackerman beat Calhoun City 35-12.
In losing to Forest, Newton suffered seven turnovers.
Lake at Raleigh
The Hornets meet an old familiar face when they travel to Raleigh Friday night. The Lions are led by former Lake head coach Durwood Anderson. Anderson went 20-3 at Lake during the 1984 and 1985 seasons.
Raleigh opened with a 23-13 victory over Mize.
Lake opened with a 27-18 loss to Morton. The Hornets did not earn a first down in the first half.
