Warriors pick up key win at Jones

ELLISVILLE In the end, the Jones Junior College Bobcats had no answer for Corey Hornsby.
Hornsby scored 33 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the East Central Community College Warriors to a 90-85 victory over JCJC Monday night at Bobcat Gym.
The Bobcats and Warriors entered the game tied for second in the South Division. The Warriors clinched a spot in next week's State Tournament with the victory.
In the women's game, the Lady Warriors pulled away from Jones in the second half, 72-55. That puts the Lady Warriors in position to qualify for the State Tournament if they can win Thursday at Gulf Coast.
The East Central men are now 14-9 overall, 8-5 in the division. Jones falls to 13-10 overall, 7-6 in the league. The Lady Warriors are also 14-9 overall, 8-5 in the division. JCJC is 4-19, 2-11.
Regular season play ends Thursday for both teams. JCJC goes to Pearl River and the Warriors are at Gulf Coast.
Warriors 90, Bobcats 85
East Central took their largest lead of the first half 39-31 with 4:11 remaining when Demario Qualls scored.
The Bobcats clawed their way back into the game finishing the first half on a 14-7 run, capped by John Gray's 3-pointer at the buzzer, leaving the Warriors with a 46-45 advantage at the break.
Jones took a 64-56 lead midway through the second half, but East Central went on a 19-6 run over the next five minutes to go up 75-70, with 6:35 left.
The Bobcats rallied to tie the score at 80 with just over three minutes left, but Qualls made two free throws, Donzell Crenshaw scored off an offensive rebound and Hornsby scored inside to put the Warriors up 86-80, with less than a minute to play.
Dewayne Hughes tallied 18 points, Qualls had 13 and Brandon Mason had 11 for ECCC.
The Bobcats got 18 points from Shedrick Kirk, 17 from Marvin McDonald and 16 from Kirkpatrick.
Lady Warriors 72, Lady Bobcats 55
East Central led just 29-27 at the half, but the Lady Warriors took charge in the second and posted the win.
Tamiekia Foley paced East Central with 21 points. Patsy McKee scored 19, and Ebone' Leverette added 13 for the Lady Warriors.
Colette Bartee led JCJC with 20 points, and Marquita Smith added 11.
